Scientists from the United States, the United Kingdom, India, China, Ethiopia, Guatemala, and Bangladesh, led by now IFPRI's Director of South Asia Dr. Shahidur Rashid, conducted research on fish farming in Bangladesh, which is the first of its kind. The study, which began in 2014 and continued until 2018, showed that three decades ago, fish production in ponds used to be 1 lakh 78 thousand tons, which has now increased by 12 fold! Farming of fish is more profitable than rice, the study said. About 10.8 million people are involved in fish farming and related business. IFPRI mentioned this unprecedented event as 'Blue Revolution.'
