IFPRI Trains GOB Officials on Data Analysis, March 4-15: With support from the USAID-funded Policy Research and Strategy Support Program (PRSSP), IFPRI organized a ten-day training course on the fundamentals of quantitative data analysis using the STATA software for 7 high-level government officials in the Governance Innovation Unit (GIU) of the Prime Minister’s Office, including the Director General. During the inaugural ceremony on March 4, IFPRI’s Country Representative for Bangladesh and 2 senior researchers from IFPRI Headquarters in Washington, D.C. provided an overview of the training and a framework for policy analysis.
IFPRI designed a customized training course using data from the Bangladesh Integrated Household Survey (BIHS), which provided both theoretical and practical, hands-on learning. IFPRI plans to organize further trainings on food policy analysis, nutrition, and more sophisticated data analysis later in the year to strengthen the research and analytical capacity of the Unit. As GIU is the apex body for monitoring progress of the SDGs in Bangladesh, GIU and IFPRI aim to use this training towards conducting joint research on poverty, hunger, nutrition, women’s empowerment, and other critical issues in the country. This training is an output of an IFPRI-GIU partnership supported by the Compact2025 initiative.
