From December 4-5, 2017, the Ministry of Food has organized the Technical Symposium on Nutrition-Sensitive Social Protection, in collaboration with the FAO “Meeting the Undernutrition Challenge (MUCH)” project, UNICEF, WFP, IFPRI, and Save the Children.
This is the second series of symposia focusing on nutrition-sensitive approaches and will be attended by representatives from the Government, the UN, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), academia, and the private sector. The Honorable State Minister for Women and Children’s Affairs will be the Chief Guest and the Honorable State Minister for Social Welfare will participate as a Special Guest. IFPRI Country Representative Dr. Akhter Ahmed will deliver technical remarks and present groundbreaking results from IFPRI-WFP's joint social protection research study, the Transfer Modality Research Initiative (TMRI).
The timing of the symposium is particularly important as the Ministry of Food is currently working towards finalizing an investment plan that recognizes key linkages between social protection, food security, and nutrition. Outcomes of the symposium will feed directly into the implementation of the second Country Investment Plan (CIP-2).
