The ANGeL pilot project has been working with the government’s agriculture extension since 2015 to provide more than 3,000 farm families with training on agriculture production, nutrition knowledge, and gender sensitization. IFPRI, together with the government and partners such as Helen Keller International, has developed training modules and monitoring tools, and encouraged district-level agriculture extension officials to promote high-quality training.
Since August 2016, field-level trainings for agriculture production and nutrition have been underway across 16 districts. ANGeL trainings go beyond business as usual: Rather than focusing exclusively on production, government agriculture extension agents now include nutrition knowledge in their outreach and messaging. Wives join their husbands in agriculture production trainings, traditionally a male domain. Men discuss the family diet and nutrition, traditionally the domain of women. Through ANGeL, the government is actively helping to overcome the gender disconnect between nutrition and agriculture by bringing everyone to the table.
