The TRAIN project, established in 2015 and slated to run until 2020, aims to fill gaps in evidence on the effects of agricultural interventions targeted at improving maternal and child nutrition. Using a randomized control trial (RCT) design, TRAIN will assess the impact of incorporating a behavior-change communication (BCC) strategy for maternal and child health and nutrition into a well-established, female-focused credit program that promotes production diversity and income generation.
The study will examine the resulting nutrition and empowerment impacts of the credit program when combined with:
- nutrition BCC
- nutrition BCC + nutrition-sensitive agricultural extension messages (targeting both women and men)
- nutrition BCC + agricultural extension + male sensitization and social mobilization.
TRAIN is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Department for International Development, and implemented by IFPRI and BRAC in Bangladesh.
